[Sans had heeded So-Yeon's warning and steered clear of the battle. It was only after the sounds of combat -- of monster death -- ebbed that Sans emerges from the dark corner he'd chosen to wait out the violence. It was just in time to be ushered to his room along with the others.
Though not before he spots Finn, being ushered along like the rest of them. There shouldn't be anything remarkable about the kid. He's seen him before, around the ship and then town. Sans vaguely recalled seeing him strike out hard with a guard a few days back.
So why did his soul seem... different now? And not just different, familiar also... in a way that tugged at Sans' chest the same way it had when the siren first blared.
Something was up with that kid. And in the interest of keeping his promise, Sans was going to have to do something about that.]
i've got a question that's probably gonna sound a little strange.

[Breathy and slightly strained, he starts with some pseudo-casualness:]
Finn, heeeey! Uh! I'm on my way over to the headquarters for some back-up distractions. More importantly — are you alright? Just making sure you're all breathing and alive, especially after Hermann's gone and told me people are hurt.
[HE CAN'T HAVE THAT, MAN.]

( Shot off during this, while he sends Daisy along: )
Get a stretcher out for Daisy and a bed prepped for Newt.
( A list follows after that, line by line of supplies to grab, and medicines to pull. Things are about to get busy! )

[...and some post-grousing at Viveca.
look. he had to. it's fine.
catching sight of Finn (and sense? poor man is still wigged out from sentient castle, clearly), Blue calls ahead of himself:]
I kept my word. I see you there.

[ This is a plan that has most definitely been discussed at some point, at the very least vaguely mentioned, but anyway Jim texts both Finn and Blue to arrange to meet in the mess hall. When they get there, they'll find Jim sitting on a table with a thermos and three mugs on it, and a small box with a few crafts supplies, like paper, scissors, glue, coloring markers and pencils, among other things. ]
Hey! Glad you could make it. Have a seat.
[ He pats the chair next to his to the first who's joining. ]

[Blue's come along on Finn's arm, blinking out of the little daze that hard-focusing on walking had him in there for a bit, piggybacking a bit on Finn's own relief and delight in just seeing Jim.]
Hello, James.
[gonna need that Finn arm for just a second more to get over and get sat, then he'll be able to give Jim a great deal more of his attention.]

( outside finn's door, he will find a little paper tiger.
finn may not be from pseudo-naruto-japan, wherein they are seen as a symbol of protection and righteousness, but perhaps he will enjoy it just the same.
shame there's no indication who it's from, though. )

[On Christmas Eve, Finn will find a package outside his door. It arrives sometime in the early evening before the party. The wrapped box isn't too large, but he won't miss it when he steps out. There's a name tag with his name so he'll know that it's meant for him.
Inside the box is a big assortment of sweets she's made herself, a Victorian guide to courting and flirtation, and a little stuffed emotional support armadillo. Yes, it's wearing the harness.
There's a note beneath all the items.
Finn,
I was thinking back on our first mission, and thought you might get a kick out of this old guide to flirting I found. I also saw this stuffed armadillo in the supply drop and thought it was silly, but that it might help any time you're feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

[Finn will find a small box that contains a blue, stainless steel ballpoint pen with a note that reads:]
Mister Finn,
I hope this gift finds you in good spirits. It is not much, however, I hope its utility makes up for it. I understand that you have been thrust into a series of circumstances beyond your comprehension. While I cannot provide much consolation, I will leave with these words—
“The origin of the universe is (the awareness of) loneliness and the purpose of the universe is companionship. All this for love, so not to be alone.” (Wald Wassermann)

And then finally — the gifts inside are revealed: a necklace and a bracelet, both space-themed in their own way; the bracelet seems to have a little paper with it that details the nine planets from Newt's galaxy that are presented there. The galaxy in the necklace seems to be one from a faraway place not yet discovered, but it's rather pretty all the same. The note inside reads:
'More cool jewelry for your look! Hopefully you like a little learning on the side.
Earth's galaxy is pretty small in the grand scheme of things, but I think our planets look pretty, so.
Happy Holidays, dude!'
He doesn't leave his name, because the 'dude' speaks for itself.]

[ After Bones has made his announcement, Jim's kept an eye on the responses with little surprise, but still a lot of concern. There are more people going for the whole self-sacrifice deal than he thought there would be, and it only worries him more, so many people to convince that anyone putting themselves at risk like that isn't going to help their odds, it'll just do them damage.
Jim's past trauma certainly plays a role into it, he's well aware. But he's trying very hard to be rational about it, he just wishes that everyone else was.
When Bones first told him about this, the first person that came to mind was definitely Finn; he'd be the type to go the stupid self-sacrificial route, and the fact that he didn't see a reply from him at all on that announcement has only served to worry him further. Tonight, as he makes it to their rooms above Bones's practice, he heads over to Finn's room, knocking first and waiting for the door to be open for him. ]
Can we talk a little bit?

Hey Finn! Where are you at?
I gotta meet you, I have a birthday request.

Ey Finn. It's been a while since we last spoke. I was wondering how you were doing lately.
[ Don't mind Peter making sure the rest of the people he knows and likes haven't gone MIA. He's just a tiny bit worried. ]

Sound off, Finn, I need to know you're alright.
[ SO!! As soon as comms are back up between both sides, what Finn first gets is an array of messages from Jim, some relaying information, others just checking in and letting him know he's alright, and some just pointless babbling, talking to himself and ending each with a note that he loves him. Overall they're nice messages, full of love and longing, a stark contrast to the real-time message that Finn gets now— ]
What the fuck is going on, Finn?
What the fuck is going on, Finn?
why didnt they take our weapons? they can't be that stupid.
