what's different here is the two-way street - that Finn can perceive those feelings without Blue having to willfully impress them upon him. it's such a gratifying, comforting thing; Blue isn't physically alone here, and neither is he psionically, either.

[targeted assault: even distracted, Blue caught the wink out of his peripheral just as Jim filled in the empty space beside him, and were the Mu's face not already flushed, it sure would be at that. these two are relentless.

I...yes. [he closes his hands around the mug.] I'm just...getting used to it. The kind of atmosphere you two exude like this. [as if he has nothing to do with it.]
[ Finn's just happy to be here, to be honest, and he isn't sure what to do with all this fluffy energy except make more of it. ]

[funny how that kind of thing doesn't really seem to pop when it's in a generic amalgamation of...food-nutrients...or whatever dystopic, science-y nonsense was going on in Blue's world that canon didn't specify so we just collectively shrug at.
but like Sabriel said - food's more than just a process for sustaining a person bodily. it's a mix of art and social interaction that nurtures someone emotionally, too. something warm and sugar-sweet intermingling with the kindness and affection that comes on both sides of him...it's a different color of thread weaving this moment into his long memory.

It's the company that matters most, the exchange and appreciation. Even just getting to sit and chat idly while eating almost seems to make the food taste better.
