[ Finn arrives in the kitchen just a few minutes later. All he'd been doing is pretending to meditate in his quarters and just feeling sorry for himself instead. But even though he looks as tired as he feels, there's still a little smile on his face. ]
Hey. [ And his eyes instantly light on the brownies. ] Oh, those look great. [ Good job! He's loving all the baking lately. ]
[ Too late. The coffee stops right at Finn's lips before the "nothing bad" caveat is mentioned. Still helps, though.
He lowers the mug a little, but the question is definitely not out of nowhere. ]
There's... probably some things I should tell you about it, actually. [ Like the healing and the... other thing. ] But what did you want to know? I'm not great at describing it but I can try.
[ What a question. Finn's tried answering this before and it never comes out quite right. So he sighs a little, his eyebrows raising a little as he finally takes a seat. Then there's a beat where he tries to gather his thoughts about it. ]
The way I've explained it to Newton and James is that it's life itself, but I think they're both still confused, so-... [ Newton seems to understand that it's just an ambiguous power thing. James seems to understand that it's bigger than any one being. So, progress. ]
To be honest, I'm not really sure. No one is, I think. It's... the force that gives us all life. It connects people, guides us, brings us back to it when- when we're gone. It's all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere but not really sentient. The Force just exists and everything else exists because of it.
There are some things back home that are in-tune with the Force, are a physical part of it. Like a, um- [ He digs in his breast pocket for a second and pulls out a clear crystal, sets it down on the table between them. ] Like a kyber crystal. They're created in the center of stars, and this one found it's way onto the station. There are other things, though, like midi-chlorians. They're the tiny white cells in some people's blood- my blood. The more you have, the more in-tune with the Force you are, too. I think.
[ It's complicated. Probably. ]
They allow me to sense the Force, to see it. I can see life around me, all over the Ximilia. I can tell what kind of a person someone is just by looking at them, can tell if they're lying or not, can almost see the future a little sometimes. I could read people's thoughts if I wanted to or make them do things they wouldn't want to do... People who are stronger with the Force can manipulate it. Make things float, that sort of thing. I'm not too good at that yet.
[ Only- ] Except when I'm scared, I guess... I'm working on controlling it.
[ And with that, he shuts himself up to take a sip of his coffee, hopefully chill his thoughts out before he starts overthinking everything. ]

( Let him do this, okay. )
I'm proud of you.

... Thank you.
[ It's surprised and extremely genuine. No one's told him that one before! Not to the point where he thought they really meant it, anyway.
Oh geez. ] And... you're welcome, but... I was glad to be able to help.

Well, keep it up.
( He makes a little sound of amusement, at the both of them, and adds, )
Listen, we're gonna go in circles if we keep this up; are you busy? I was about to make coffee.

No, I'm not. Where are you?
no subject
( That someone being him, okay, there was more than enough chocolate around for it. )
> action!
I'll be there in a second.

How do you take your coffee?

Just black's fine, thanks. I'm glad you're feeling better.
[ He's certainly acting as if he is, anyway. ]
no subject
Me too.
( Alright, here goes. )
Finn... I wanted to talk to you about something. Nothing bad— ( just to forestall any anxiety here, while he takes a sip of his coffee. )
I'd like to know more about the Force.

Start with the basics. What is it, exactly? Or roughly, ( he amends. )
