they're a little more touchier than mine. he abused them for a long time, though he's getting a lot better about it. if you see him treating them badly don't be afraid to call him out. they won't attack you for it and he won't set them on you.

unfortunately there are lots of trainers like him but we can take comfort in his efforts to change, at least
try to remember the thing about the gengar. he likely won't hurt you, but gengars are EXTREMELY dangerous. i can leave mightyena around if you want some backup-- he can use bite or crunch on it which should take it out in one hit.

niko's dad was the leader of one of the most dangerous group of criminals in the world, back home. they caught and sold pokémon and abused them for profit. he didn't have any good role models for being a good trainer growing up.
