IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Finn
Canon: Star Wars
Canon Point: Post-The Rise of Skywalker
Age: ~24
Background: Wookieepedia

Arrival Scenario: Free Cities!

Suitability:
Arriving anywhere in game leaves a person like Finn in an interesting position. He's already been through being kidnapped and forced into a military against his will. Despite however polite and understanding the NPCs are upon his arrival, Finn is greatly distrustful of the entire situation and everyone involved. So much so that he'd be willing to believe that the local people do know how they can go home and aren't telling them.

Regardless, that's only his initial impression and a jumping off point of where his story in the game can end up. While he refused to enlist in the military of the Free Cities so far, he could very well choose to go back at a later time. Whatever he decides, his main goal at the moment is finding a way home and finding more answers about this new world, including uncovering whatever he can about these gods he's already heard murmurs about. He's also begun to seek out allies, trying to find people he can trust since he's so distrustful of the locals.

All in all, there's a lot that he can get up to and many places he could fit in. His need for justice, desire to help people, and years of military experience make him more than suitable, in my opinion. Lastly, his gifts with The Force could end up being of interest to the game's plot at a later point, too.

Powers:
The Force is literally the life force of everything, connecting people together and generally attached to all things in the multiverse. In short, this includes telekinesis, telepathy, and some other tricks. Finn is Force-Sensitive, meaning he can see and manipulate the Force.

In canon, Finn hasn't shown any telekinetic abilities. His telepathy, however, is present if not very strong. He can sense connections between himself and his friends, is able to know things that he otherwise shouldn't, can get a general sense of something before it happens, and can get a good read on someone's moral character. With time and training, these powers can grow stronger, especially his telekinesis in high emotional situations.

OOCly, I have an opt-in/opt-out set up in his permissions for anyone to use whenever they like, but I still keep his abilities close to the chest unless I have player permission beforehand. While the Force can also be very overpowered, I don't plan on ever getting that far with it. Over time, I'd like for him to grow strong enough to use it some, but all in time and all done organically.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
The most important event in Finn's life was escaping the First Order. Really, this was two major events in one. The only reason he hadn't tried to escape sooner was due to his squad mate, Slip, who was known for making mistakes often. During mission simulations, Finn would go back for him or help him through exercises, which he was disciplined for doing. On their first real field mission, Slip was killed, prompting Finn to finally leave no matter the risk.

Actually leaving was another matter. He broke out an enemy pilot, Poe Dameron, who became one his best friends. He was given a real name by Poe who refused to call him by his designation, FN-2187. After crash landing during their escape, Finn met Rey and BB-8, ran into Han Solo and Chewbacca, and ultimately became integral to destroying the First Order's superweapon.

On a personal level, escaping changed everything. He was allowed to be a person for the first time, someone with their own autonomy, their own name, even their own haircut. He was allowed to make friends, allowed to fight for what he believed in, and allowed to dream of a future away from combat. Leaving the First Order became the most important moment of his life.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Finn's moral code boils down to living without regret. He had done things in the First Order he wasn't proud of, even if these things were just not acting when he should have. Now that he has his own life and the ability to make his own choices, he always tries to do the right thing in the moment. Sometimes, his decisions don't end well, but the fact that he tried at all still matters to him.

These decisions he makes every day have a weight to them, though. Even before he gained the rank of General, his actions almost always lead to deaths, no matter what side of the war those lives were on. Essentially, he has to make difficult decisions, sometimes in a split-second. So, while he tries to live without regret, things still tend to happen. He takes every bad choice hard but refuses to let anything stop him. Learning from his mistakes drives him to be a better, smarter person in the future.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
The goodness of a person is what Finn values most. He often tries to find the best parts of a person and chooses to believe that they have good intentions, sometimes at his own detriment and leading him to being tricked or used. Even so, he doesn't stop believing in the good of people.

Otherwise, he admires confidence and capability, someone who can handle themselves whether that be in combat or anywhere else. Intelligence is also something he admires, especially someone who is smart regarding people or has plenty of life experience.

Most of all, he likes a person who uses these qualities to help other people. Whether that's by means of a literal rescue, charity, or just passing on their knowledge, Finn deeply admires someone who reaches out to others.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
Despite how much he's turned this side of himself into a tool for good, he doesn't like how militaristic his mindset is. It reminds him constantly that he didn't have a normal childhood, much less a normal life, and leads him to believe that he'll never truly have anything normal. After all, he grew up believing that only real people had names. While he quickly learned that thought process was ridiculous, there's something to be said about how childhood trauma stays with a person.

He also considers any and all short comings in himself to be personal failures. Not being fast enough, strong enough, or smart enough to save people in the moment eats at him, even though he moves beyond the situation and does better in the future.

Otherwise, he tries every day to be someone he admires. Always doing what's right, always doing his best, even using what he dislikes about himself as a strength. What he finds in himself that he truly dislikes, such as a moment of selfishness or greed, he tries to stomp out of existence and maybe even overcorrects a little in his enthusiasm.

What is their sign, and why?
Finn's sign is Strength. For a time, The Lovers and Death were serious considerations for their traits of loyalty and persistence respectively. In the end, Strength came out the victor because if Finn is anything, he's protective. He uses all of the skills and abilities the First Order taught him to defend the innocent and those he loves. He's even nearly laid down his life more than once, running on suicide missions or even attending his own execution a few times. He has no problem sacrificing everything if it means protecting what he cares about.
